Lauren Moffatt Spring '12

In my fashion vocabulary, spring spells w-h-i-m-s-c-a-l. As the flowers start blooming, so does my love for all things girly and vintage inspired. I get my kicks out of shelving the scarves and pea coats, dusting off the frilly dresses and painting myself with a palette of pastels. 

When I think of spring fashion, I think of a 20-something french girl who's messy fish-tail braid and floral dress catches the breeze as she scoots along cobble-stoned streets on a baby-blue Vespa on her way to picnic under the cherry-blossom trees. She sees the sunlit day through her Jackie-O shades and smells of Jasmine and vanilla.

To Market , To Market

Living in the Northern Californian countryside has it's perks, especially considering the well-stocked vintage markets that have been popping up this fall.

A few weeks ago, I went with a few friends to the bi-annual Roses and Rust market just outside of Redding. Considering the fact that roses, trees, antiques and hand-made anythings are a few of the things that make me tick, I was in my absolute element. We spent a beautiful afternoon in the fall sunshine browsing all the divine booths that showcased everything from weathered furniture and books to collectables and clothing. The only thing holding me back from spending obscene amounts of money on old suitcases and furniture was the fact that they wouldn't fit so well on the plane going back to South Africa next year. 

My ministry school revival group pastor was actually one of the vendors at the market, and her stall 'A Royal Life' was a british-themed booth that sold intricately hand-crafted crowns as well as refurbished furniture which was absolutely beautiful. A Royal Life actually won the runner up for the best stall of the day. Well done Trisha!

 Last weekend, I went with two wonderful women to another market in the countryside town of Willows, and it was most lovely. Although it offered fewer vendors than the Roses and Rust market, I'll definitely say it was a lot more refined. Every single booth had the most incredible items on sale, and I happily found myself some vintage crafting supplies to stock up my collection. The venue was gorgeous, and a day of unwinding, browsing, and appreciating all things vintage was exactly what I needed.

Time For Tea

My beautiful cousin Justine turned 18 last week, so my aunt Cheryl and I joined forces to throw her what we hoped would be her most special birthday to date. And so it was.
Justine knew we had taken on the role of 'party planner' but had no idea exactly what we had up our sleeve. 
In the end it turned out to be a lovely morning tea with 12 of Justine's closest friends. We had lots of laughs, overdosed on sugary delights, and celebrated my cousin's life.


We decorated the table with vintage tea cups, pink roses, doilies with messages inscribed onto them, sweetie jars, and I also created a 'photo wall' by converting photos of Justine and her friends into polaroids. 
The main feature was the gorgeous cake accompanied by 12 cupcakes, all done by Lee McDonough of 'The Cake Specialist.' The macaroons were bought from The Macaroon Cafe on Florida Road and the sweetie jars from Mr Price home. 


I enjoyed organizing this party so much, that I am considering going into the business! It's so wonderfully creative and the ideas are endless. Oh, how I love being a girl.

Bleubird Vintage Family

Mirror, mirror on the wall, who's the most stylish family of them all? Without a doubt, the "Bleubird Vintage" trendy-troop wins first place.
One of my all time favourite blogs, Bleubird Vintage, is run by 'Miss James,' a mommy, stylist and clothing designer, who in my opinion {and probably yours too} is one of the most hip and happening mum's this world has to offer. Her blog is riddled with vintage-inspired style, beautiful pictures, and most importantly, photos of her fashion-forward family. Miss James or "Mamma Bird" as she refers to herself is married to a bearded bloke that looks like he could be the lead singer of a Canadian folk band, and together they have three gorgeous little ones, the youngest of whom they have nicknamed "baby bird" {bless their hearts.}
On her blog, the very creative 'mamma bird' has put  some of the cutest ideas into motion, for example, when she was preggos with baby bird, she wrote her little notes every few days and journalled her pregnancy on the blog. Her readers thrived off the idea as they began to follow her progress through pregnancy, birth and early motherhood. Now isn't that just the most adorable thing you ever did hear?
My favourite feature on the blog are the weekly "what we wore" posts that include photos and details of what the Bleubird clan is wearing, and might I say, they always look incredible, especially the kiddies who are living proof that style and good taste is in fact hereditary. 
For this family, sweat-pants and a tee are not an option. Ever.I adore their approach to life and style. It's priceless.
I personally cannot wait to start a family, and this group of lovely people make me all the more excited to one day have a family and babas of my own who I can kit-out in trendy attire. {here's to hoping my future husband knows how to put a decent outfit together, or I may appoint myself as designated stylist.}
Ps: I hope my body looks as unscathed as hers after popping out a few kids.
